Summer Skincare Tips

During the summer, you are exposed to increased sun exposure, hot weather, and humidity. This makes clogged pores, sunburns, and dark spots more likely if you don't take the proper precautions in your beauty routine. Although a good skincare routine should keep your skin healthy throughout the year, there are a few modifications you should make to keep your skin prepared for the hot summertime.

Use Sunscreen
It's very important to wear sunscreen year-round, but it's especially important during the summer. As UV exposure goes up, so should your protection. Make sure to wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 15-30 every day, and reapply it every two hours. If you need help choosing the right sunscreen for you, check out our last blog here.

Hydrate
Although you're sweatier and produce more oil in the summer, it is still important to hydrate inside and out. Drink lots of water every day, and make sure you are using a light-weight moisturizer after every wash.

Cleanse
As stated before, your skin produces more oil in summer, and you should be using the right cleanser to accommodate for that. Make sure the products you use are non-comedogenic,as this means it will not clog your pores. For dry skin types, use a gentle and hydrating cleanser and a foaming cleanser for oily skin. Try to wear less makeup during the summertime and never forget to remove your makeup before bed, which is a big contributor to clogged pores.

Exfoliate
Many people tend to overdo it when it comes to exfoliating, but it is important to be persistent during the summer to get all the dead skin off. Build up of dead skin can contribute to clogged pores, which is already a higher risk during the hotter seasons. You should be exfoliating one to three times a week, but make sure to start slow. Start by exfoliating once a week and if your skin seems to do good with that, go up to twice a week until you've slowly made your way up to 3 times per week.
