Summer Skin Tips

Getting your skin summer ready is important, but protecting it from the summer sun is also very important. Ensure that you are protecting your largest organ. Following the proper tips is a way to prolong the health and youthfulness of your skin for as long as possible.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation removes dead skin and dulling debris to keep pores unclogged.  This exfoliation is beneficial for improving hydration by utilizing toners and moisturizers.  This process should be performed in the morning prior to toner, moisturizer with SPF, and makeup.

Hydration

Keeping your skin hydrated is very important for the health of your skin.  Hydrating masks can be used twice a week.  Toners are extremely helpful by working to even out porosity prior to placing moisturizing lotion on the skin.

Water

In the summer, your hydration levels will decrease due to the heat.  You must replenish your water intake and ensure that your skin is getting the moisture it needs. The recommended 8 glasses of 8-ounce water is necessary and even more water is necessary if you are drinking caffeine, which can further hydrate you.

Sunscreen

Applying sunscreen is important to the health of your skin.  Applying enough sunscreen is imperative, as it should cover every square inch.  You should also be reapplying every two hours and even more frequently if water activities are occurring.

Repair

UV rays have damaging affects on your skin.  Unfortunately, tanned skin is very popular and desired.  If you are outside in the sun, make sure to lather up with the SPF and try and repair the damage you have caused with age-fighting ingredients.  Try and reverse the signs of aging that comes from repeated sun exposure.

Lighten

In the winter, we use heavy moisturizing creams to keep our winter skin under control.  In the summer, it’s time to lighten up your skin care routine and go with a gentle, foaming face wash and very lightweight moisturizer.

Dual Purpose

Make sure to select a new lightweight moisturizer that has an SPF of 30 or higher when you swap out your winter for summer selection.  Too heavy of a moisturizer can lead to clogged pores and acne.

Vitamin C

Although we love the vitamin C the sun provides, we prefer it minus the UV damage.  Invest in a great vitamin C serum to apply to your skin in between cleansing and moisturizing.  It helps with hyperpigmentation and it also improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Feet

Don’t forget your feet! Many of us forget to exfoliate and moisturize our feet. They carry us around all day and they need to be pampered.  Also, don’t forget to add sunscreen to the tops of your feet as they can burn very easily.

Eyes

Make sure you are protecting your eyes with sunglasses to prevent them from burning.  Also, ensure that you are moisturizing and taking care of your under-eye skin region.  It is very thin and sensitive skin and you need a good serum to ensure that skin stays healthy.
