Eating and your Skin

Your food intake helps your body be at its best and your skin is the body’s largest organ, so you want to ensure you are eating things that are good for you and your skin.  Everybody desires radiant and glowing skin and we want to shed our dull and lifeless skin.  All the food we eat is broken down into vitamins and minerals that our body uses to build healthy skin.  Here are some tips on what to eat to get that glow.

Foods to Eat

Protein

One thing you need to build beautiful skin is eat plenty of protein.  Protein is essential for building collagen.  Collagen is responsible for giving your skin the elasticity and suppleness your body desires to look healthy and firm throughout the years.

Vegetables

Eating vegetables is good for your health and your skin.  One miraculous vegetable is avocado.  This should be a regular go-to for your diet.  Avocados give healthy fats and phytonutrients that keep your body and your skin at its best.  Liquid chlorophyll is also an amazing supplement that you can drink to boost and oxygenate your skin from the inside out.  Tomatoes and their lycopene are also an amazing vegetable that can provide antioxidants that prevent free radical damage from the environment and especially sun.  Darker, green leafy vegetables are also an amazing source of vitamins and minerals that can improve your skin.

Carbs

Although we try to minimize carbs from our diet, there are plenty of reasons to make sure you get some carbohydrates into your system.  Carbs are great for energy and to allow you some fuel for your workout.

Supplements

There are also some supplements that can be considered to boost your success on your diet.  Omega-3 fatty acids are an amazing way to keep your skin at its best.  Vitamin C is also essential to the health of your body.  Don’t forget your vitamin A and E supplements that are essential to your skin and nail health.  Try and add a little turmeric to your diet as well, because it can do wonders for your skin.

Foods to Avoid

Low – Sugar

Your skin can also benefit from what you don’t eat.  Sugar can cause a dullness in your skin and can also cause acne to develop and flourish.  Acne can be very devastating to your appearance and even more devastating to your skin.  The acne pustules can leave scarring and pore deepening effects that can last a lifetime.  Sugar also aggravates the appearance of wrinkles and rashes.  Reducing sugar is great for your skin and even more important for the health of your waistline.

Dairy

Many people tend to be intolerant at some level in regards to dairy.  Dairy products usually come from pregnant cows, and the hormone levels tend to play a role in sebum production which aggravates acne.  If you must have dairy-type products, consider using non-dairy alternatives and goat’s milk, which will not cause the aggravations that regular dairy causes.
