Younger Looking Skin Tips

Submitted by Patrick Hatfield on

We all have the desire to display younger skin.  Who wouldn’t want to be confused for a few years younger?  The environment, sun, pollution, and other factors can contribute to premature skin aging.  There are several tips that can preserve the skin you have and prevent signs of aging.

Follow ABC’s

The ABC’s are essential to youthful skin and the basics of any dermatologist’s recommendation.  The “A” stands for antioxidants, which fight free radicals that can cause skin damage.  Retinoids are great antioxidants that can make the skin appear smoother, more even, and diminish the appearance of fine lines. The “B” stands for creating a barrier between your skin and the sun’s damaging rays.  Sunblock needs to be applied when outdoors, even if it is overcast.  The “C” stands for vitamin C serum, which strengthens the skin and helps to repair sun damage.  Vitamin C also helps to boost collagen levels in the skin to provide more supple skin that is free from fine lines and wrinkles.

Gentle

Many products are extremely harsh to the skin and rubbing vigorously on the skin can cause damage and cause fine lines and wrinkles.  Cleansers should be mild and gentle to the skin and you should use oil-based cleansers.

Avoid Eye Rubbing

It is important to avoid eye rubbing, due to allergies or sleepiness.  However, if you rub your eyes, it may cause wrinkling around the eyes and can cause darkening of the skin under the eyes.  Eye rubbing can also cause sagging on the underneath of the eyes.

Sleep

We always underestimate the importance of sleep in our lives.  If you lose sleep, you also elevate cortisol levels.  These high levels of chronic stress due to lack of sleep can cause acne, eczema, psoriasis, and even wrinkles.  Try to get the sleep your body needs and avoid cortisol stress in your life.

Activity

We all know that exercise and activity is great for your body and for your cardiovascular system.  Exercise can help decrease inflammation in the body and all of these factors can help reduce wrinkles.  Exercise will help improve immune function and keep you healthier overall.  Also, getting fit can help with increasing elasticity in the skin.

Hydration

Your skin needs to have water to stay hydrated and healthy.  Without water, the skin becomes dehydrated and skin cells begin to dry out and flake.  Over time, dry skin is more likely to wrinkle.  Without water, other organs will also suffer and lose proper function.
