Skin Care Tips for Aging

We all age and there is not much we can do to stop it, but we can employ some tips to slow down the affects of aging on our skin.  The skin gets drier and thinner as we age, which makes hydration a challenge.  There are several doctors recommended ways to keep your skin looking its best for as long as possible that can be found below.

Preventive Measures – One way to fight the signs of aging is to prevent the suns’ ultraviolet (UV) rays from penetrating your skin.  You should always use sunscreen with your everyday skin regimen, even when it is winter and you don’t believe the sun is shining.  UV rays are shining all of the time, not only when you can see the sun and its rays.  An SPF of 25 or higher is necessary to combat harmful UVA/UVB rays.

Moisturize – The skin dries out as we age and lose moisture.  This is why moisturizers are much more important than ever for the health of your skin.  Moisturizers with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C are effective at preventing wrinkles from forming.  Find a moisturizer that truly penetrates and gives your skin a refreshed look without the grease.

Hydration – Drinking water is essential for your health, but it is also essential for keeping your skin hydrating from the inside out.  Vital functions are performed by flushing toxins through your body while aiding digestion.

Retinoids – These derivatives from vitamin A are powerful antioxidants that can help to regenerate and plump up the skin, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  This product can be used to generate an even appearance and texture.

Sleep on your Back – Sleeping on your back is a great way to reduce mechanical compression forces, which can cause an increase in the wrinkle formation on your face.  Silk pillowcases are a great way to reduce skin wrinkles on the face and sleeping on your back can keep wrinkles from forming on your décolletage.

Sleep – Getting enough sleep is a way to allow your body to recuperate and heal from within.  Getting sleep is imperative to the health of your entire body and should be something you prioritize in your life.

Exfoliate – Your skin sheds in a 28-day cycle, but it should be exfoliated weekly due to the dull nature of the dead skin.  Using a scrub that exfoliates gently can be the answer to reducing dead skin and fine lines and wrinkles.  The youthful skin that lies beneath will glow.

Stop Smoking – The chemicals will cause your skin to sag and generate fine lines.  Smoking deprives your skin of oxygen and nutrients, which causes damage to your skin.  Smoking can also create age spots.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids – These fatty acids nourish dry skin and also do some amazing things for your heart and brain cognition.  Fish oil can nourish your skin and reduce the signs of aging.  Some excellent sources of fatty acids are flax seeds, tuna, salmon, soybeans, and pumpkin seeds.
