Skin Care Tips

The skin is the largest organ in the human body.  We often forget that our skin is the barrier for protection from outside elements.  We must treat our skin well, so that it works to protect us from harm.  There are many ways to keep our skin healthy and functioning at its best, so here are a few tips.

Hydrate – We hear that water is great for your body, but it is also great for your skin.  Consuming at least eight glasses of water a day allows your body to release and flush toxins from your body that may cause damage to your skin.

Wash your Skin – Making sure to clean your skin is important.  Obviously, your hands should be washed frequently and your face should be washed twice daily.  It is important that makeup and skin care products are removed from the skin to allow it to breathe.  If skin products remain on your skin, they may clog pores and cause acne or skin irritation.

Exfoliate – Scrubbing your face is an excellent way to remove dead skin cells and cleanse your pores.  The removal of dead skin cells will help your skin to breathe and provide a natural glow.  This should be performed weekly, because over exfoliating can cause dryness and itchiness.

Moisturize – Please apply moisturizer specific to your skin daily.   This will help combat the signs of aging by reducing fine lines and wrinkles.  A deep moisturizer will help to reduce rough patches and irritation that may be present on your skin.  Coconut oil is a natural and effective option for moisturizing your skin and providing anti-inflammatory properties.

Sunscreen – Protect your skin to prevent the signs of aging, rashes, and even skin cancer.  This should be applied daily, even when it looks overcast outside.  Sunscreen blocks harmful UV rays from the sun and keeps your skin safe.

Facials – Having a facial once a month is an excellent way to deep cleanse your skin.  The massage involved with the facial also helps to flush out toxins by promoting circulation and oxygen in the skin cells.  It is also a way to destress and unwind.

Eat Well – Your body is a product of what you eat.  Eating well means refraining from saturated fats, excess sugar, and processed foods as much as possible.  Make sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and if you are in doubt that you are getting the proper nutrients, consider a whole food multivitamin to ensure you are getting all of the nutrients your body needs.

Go Chemical Free – Now this may be a challenge, but baby steps can really improve your skin.  Try to cut out as many chemicals as you can from your beauty regimen.  Natural beauty products are often just as effective as the ones with harsh chemicals.  Consider that every product you put on your skin will enter your bloodstream.  Try to use organic and natural products whenever possible.  This includes your laundry detergent and shampoo and conditioners.
