How to Get Healthy Skin

Healthy skin is the goal for most of us that desire to look and feel our best.  It is also great for us to have a powerful barrier to protect us from the outside world.  Healthy skin is a wonderful way to slow down the signs of aging and it can also help prevent many skin conditions.  Your skin is the first thing that others notice about you when they see you and it is definitely something you can’t hide completely.  Here are some solid tips to keep your skin in great condition.

Sun – Sun feels wonderful on our skin and gives us nice coloring.  However, there can be too much of a good thing.  Make sure to use sunscreen of at least SPF 15 and it must be re-applied every two hours that you are in the sun.  If you are partaking in water activities or being athletic and sweaty, you may need to reapply sooner.  Always take some time to rest in the shade especially between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the sun’s rays are at their peak.  Also, wear protective clothing that covers your skin and a hat that blocks rays from your face and neck if you plan on being out in the sun for long periods of time.

Gentle – Treating your skin gently is the key to a happy and healthy skin for life.  Limiting shower time to around 10 minutes and ensuring the water isn’t too hot is a way to keep moisture in your skin and not destroy too many oils.  Avoid strong fragrances that strip oil from your skin.  Shave carefully with shaving cream and always shave in the direction of hair growth.  Pat skin to dry it, so moisture can remain in the skin.  Moisturize your skin right after showering to trap in moisture and keep the skin healthy.  Finding the perfect moisturizer for your skin is necessary for beautiful skin.

Eat Well – A healthy diet can truly make your skin shine.  Fruits, vegetables, grains, and lean meats are necessary for you to receive all of the healthy vitamins and minerals your body needs to perform at its best.  Omega fatty acids are considered necessary for healthy skin.  Also, drinking plenty of water is a way to ensure your skin remains healthy and hydrated.  Water also keeps the skin plump and moist, which hides the appearance of wrinkles.  Exercising also helps remove toxins from your body and keeps your skin in good condition.

Smoking – Smoking is not a great idea if you are wanting to preserve the health and beauty of your skin.  Smoking makes your skin look older by adding wrinkles.  Smoking narrows blood vessels in the skin, which decreases blood flow and makes skin pale in color.  It also decreases collagen and elastin and the repetitive motions you make when smoking will cause creases and wrinkles on your face.  Smoking stresses your body and stress can cause acne breakouts and other skin conditions to occur.
